Friends of the Elko County Library

Founding

The organization, Friends of the Elko County Library, is just that…a friend of the library!  This group was formed in 1988 and has been hosting fundraising events for over 30 years to support the Elko Mybrary and surrounding communities.

Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

Fundraisers

The Friends of the Elko County Library has raised over $200,000 for the Elko County Library since it was founded;  that is an awesome feat! These funds have been used to purchase library materials and public computers not just in Elko, but in support of all of our surrounding communities.  The donations have also supported programming, the Northeastern Nevada Regional Bookmobile, Library Advocacy and continuing education.

The Friends of the Elko County Library have been able to raise this amount of money through their yearly fundraising efforts. In recent years, the Friends have raised funds through the past Barrick Golf Tournament, a Donation Request Campaign held in the winter;  seasonal book sales, and Just Desserts, always a fan favorite.
