Background
The Laura Oki Memorial Scholarship was established by the Friends of the Elko County Library (now the Friends of Mybrary) in Spring of 2023 to honor her memory and commitment to the library. Laura worked in all areas of the library and dedicated over 40 years of her life to supporting our communities through library services, including serving on the Library Board in her retirement. Laura was President of the Friends of the Library for several years and helped to increase access to technology in the library.
Amount
The amount of this scholarship is $500 awarded to one recipient pursuing higher education.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any person who can show enrollment in a higher education course at a two- or four-year college, including online or correspondence courses.
- Must be a United States citizen and a resident of Elko, Eureka, or White Pine Counties.
- Applicant must submit a typed essay (no less than 500 words) on “The Use and Importance of Access to Technology in Public Libraries.”
- Do not include any personally identifying information in the essay.
- Essays must be received no later than Friday, May 30, 2025. The successful applicant will be notified after June 6, 2025.
